The map was great, the setting even better, the unit variety pathetic, differentiation between factions was non existent and in the end all played out the same, a lack of active factions on the geopolitical landscape was just plain frustrating, and at no point did Persia attack me even after I had conquered the pelopenesse.
My first few days playing the vanilla experience was subpar at best and really a monochrome exercise in repetition tactically and strategically, they really fucked it up. Ive just finished my first wrath of Sparta campaign as Athens and for the record I thought it was quite fun, 99% of that is due to the mods (Maximus183's Wrath of Sparta Campaign Overhaul, Hoplites of Greek Poleis alongside others) and my passion for that particular era of history.
